Gas Tag shortlisted for a clutch of national awards recognising innovation

Our ground breaking technology that saves lives by stopping rogue gas fitters from working on appliances in people’s homes has been shortlisted for eight national industry awards.

Gas Tag’s software is the first of its kind and is bringing about a ‘revolution’ in gas safety in the UK. More than one million British homes are set to be ‘Gas Tagged’ this year.

The company, which launched in July 2017, is a finalist in the Northern Housing Awards, Association of Gas Safety Managers (AGSM) Gas Safety awards and the IGEM Gas Safety Awards.

In the AGSM awards, which celebrate gas safety in social housing, they are shortlisted in four categories: Gas Safety Initiative of the Year, Supplier Community Initiative of the Year for their Axe Safety Tax campaign, Gas Safety Collaboration together with Taunton Deane Borough Council and Social Housing Compliance together with Taunton Deane Borough Council.

In the IGEM Gas Safety Awards, which honours outstanding companies in the sector, they are shortlisted for Innovative Product and Innovative Project together with Taunton Deane Borough Council.

Gas Tag is the only technology that verifies the credentials of gas engineers via a direct link to the Gas Safe Register. Each engineer has to evidence their competency and their completed job gets uploaded to a centralised portal where the data can be monitored in real-time. This provides landlords with a ‘NASA-style’ dashboard for gas safety compliance.

Since launching, Gas Tag has won the backing of MPs and industry figures, who believe the company’s pioneering technology can bring about a revolution in gas safety.

Gas Tag is being snapped up by landlords, housing associations and local authorities across the country to combat the scourge of illegal gas fitters and enforce gas safety regulations.

Gas Safe Register, the official gas registration organisation for the UK, reports that 1.1 million gas jobs are carried out every year by illegal gas fitters who are not properly qualified, putting householders at huge risk.

Paul Durose, co-founder and chief executive for Gas Tag said: “We’re proud to be finalists in such a clutch of prestigious national awards recognising innovation across the sector.

“Our revolutionary technology enables social and private landlords to know in real time that their gas appliances have been properly serviced and inspected.

“We are on track to fit Gas Tags in over a million rented homes in the coming months which means we will be protecting those tenants from the dangers of unregistered illegal gas fitters.”

Richard Wiseman, property investment manager at Taunton Deane, says: “Thanks to Gas Tag’s innovative technology we’re leading the way in managing our homes and going above and beyond to ensure the safety of our tenants.”

The winners of the AGSM awards will be announced at their annual national conference dinner on Wednesday 25th April at the Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire.

The winners of the IGEM Gas Safety Awards will be announced on 15th May at London’s Park Lane Hilton.

The winners of the Northern Housing Awards will be announced on the 16th May at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
